Next Generation of Books?

For all of you bookworms out there...

Do you have any interest in "going digital" with your books? Do you have, or plan to get one of these?

Or perhaps you'd be interested in reading books on your iPhone or Blackberry? Or maybe, for you, a book will always consist of printed words on paper that has been bound up.

From both a personal and professional standpoint, I'm extremely interested to see how technology will continue to change the way people purchase, use, read, view, and think about books. I mean, there has already been a significant shift to online book perusing and purchasing. Libraries have also gone digital in some respects, and many have great websites with a lot of capabilities.

And then there's music. I mean, iTunes has significantly influenced the way people consume music. Is it a stretch to think something similar might happen with books?

A Sony Reader is currently on its way to me, and I'm wildly excited about it. I travel a lot and look forward to a time where I can just bring along a slim little machine instead of 4-5 heavy, bulky books. The reader can hold about 160 books, which is great for someone like me who is always in the middle of 4-5 books at any time.

I'll let you know what I think! In the meantime, what are your thoughts on all of this?

Hm...interesting. I'm torn. It is way cool and I like technology (although it baffles me sometimes). But I'm also touchy feely and I love the graphics used w/ books, I like them for bookshelves and coffee tables, and well I just think there is something about a water-stained, dog-eared (sp?) copy of your favorite book.

Let me know how you like it...I'm curious! Lucky girl btw... :)

Jason is totally addicted to his, and he's only had it for one business trip. He LOVES it!

He told me that unless a book is really, really compelling, he gets bored with it after about 45 minutes. SO, with this thing, he can move on to another book without having to carry multiple books with him.

It looks SUPER cool.

We've got books all over our house. But for convenience and travel, this thing seems awesome.

I'd love to have one! They are still a bit pricy for me. I love the feel of books, but I like to have one in my purse for when I am waiting for the kids or at a Dr. office. Some of my books fit in my purse, but most do not. I would love to have my choice of books to choose from when I am away from home. Will they replace books? No, not for me, but they do have a place. I'm interested to see how you store or back up your electronic books. I would hate to buy a bunch and then lose them somehow to a mechanical malfunction.

I think they are so cool I just wish they weren't so expensive. I can't wait to hear what you think of yours.
Enjoy!

I think for convenience sake and travel it would be awesome. I am not sure how I would like reading on something that small, no pages turning, etc... Hmm... I would definitely want to try one out before purchasing it. I will be interested to know what you think of it.

I have always thought they were a neat idea... however the only one I've ever played with in the store was the one that was offered by Borders and after a few minutes my eyes had the feel of reading off a computer screen.

There are a few things that make me weary... Since I stare at a computer screen all day, would it be the same thing when reading off the electronic book thing... How does it fair in different lights, like outside in the sun for example.... What if you like the book? Maybe if you by the kindle and then proceed to download the book for $10, if you like the book you could then buy 1 copy for $5.... Just some things that have gone through my head... ;)

First, I keep meaning to post this, but I like the new blog look!

Second, I can see where one would be handy if you travel and read extensively while you travel. But there's just something about a new (or old) book - the feel of the pages, the smell of the binding...I just don't think I could replace my favorite books with digital copies. I'm sure it would be convenient in some respects, but I don't see it replacing books completely.

Some people are foodies. I'm a bookie. LOL. Not really, but you know what I mean.
